Getting Started
Welcome to FirstSlate
A tour of how one job moves through FirstSlate, from the first intake link to final delivery.
Updated 2026-07-10
FirstSlate keeps everything for one job in a single project: the brief your client filled out, the proposal they signed, the invoice they paid, and the call sheet your crew confirmed. Your client and your crew never create an account. Every document they touch arrives as a link you send, and they read, sign, or pay right in their browser.
This article is the map. Each stage below links to the article that covers it in depth.
Create a project and send the intake link
A project is the container for one job: one client, one set of documents, one timeline. Click New project from Dashboard → Projects, connect it to a client, and send your client an intake link that collects the brief (budget, timeline, references, whatever questions you ask). They answer from their browser, no account needed. See create a project and send the intake link.
Review the brief
Once your client submits the intake form, their answers land in the project as a brief. Review it, then it is ready to turn into a proposal. See review and send the project brief.
Build and send a proposal
Build a proposal from the project, priced from your own services and packages. Send it and your client gets a link where they can review the scope and prices. See build a proposal and send a proposal and track opens.
Your client accepts and e-signs
Your client accepts the proposal and signs it electronically, right on the link you sent them, no printing or scanning. See how clients accept and e-sign.
Generate the invoice and get paid
Once a proposal is signed, generate an invoice from it. Split it into milestones if you want a deposit and a balance, and connect Stripe so your client can pay by card or ACH straight from the invoice link. See create an invoice from a proposal and accept online payments.
Build a call sheet for the shoot
When it's time to shoot, build a call sheet inside the project: schedule, locations, and crew with their rates. Send it and each crew member confirms with a tap. See build a call sheet.
Deliver the final files
When the edit is done, send your client a delivery link to review and approve the final files. The acceptance is recorded on the project. See deliver final files for client approval.
Where to go first
Before you send anything to a client, set up your studio branding so proposals, invoices, call sheets, and emails carry your logo and colors instead of a blank template. Head to Settings and see set up your studio branding.

Common questions
Does my client need to create an account?
No. Every client-facing document (the intake form, the proposal, the invoice, the call sheet, the delivery) is a share link. Your client opens it, acts on it, and never logs in.
Where do I see everything happening on one job?
Open the project. It's the single place that ties together the brief, proposal, invoice, call sheet, and delivery for that client. See track everything from the Project Hub.
What if I only need part of this workflow?
Use whichever pieces fit the job. Some producers only send invoices, others only use call sheets for crew coordination. Nothing requires you to complete every stage in order.
