Team workspaces (Studio)
How Studio workspaces let teammates work inside your account, how seats and access levels work, and what stays owner-only.
Updated 2026-07-10
On the Studio plan you can invite teammates into your workspace instead of working alone. A workspace is not a separate account: teammates sign in with their own login and password, but everything they see and touch (clients, projects, proposals, invoices, call sheets, branding) is your studio's data. There is one workspace per Studio subscription, and you, the person who upgraded, are its owner.
Where to find it
As the workspace owner, click Team in the sidebar, or open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Settings, and open the Team tab. Teammates do not see the Team tab themselves; billing, workspace settings, and team management stay owner-only regardless of anyone's access level.
Inviting a teammate
- On the Team tab, enter their email under Invite a teammate.
- Pick an Access level: Full access or Limited access (see below).
- Click Send invite.
FirstSlate emails them a signup link. Until they accept, they show up in the Seats list as a pending invite, and you can click Resend to send the invite email again, or the copy icon next to it to copy the invite link directly.
Seats
Studio includes 3 seats total (you plus 2 teammates). If you need more, open Seat add-ons on the same tab and use the stepper to add up to 10 extra seats, then click Update seats. Extra seats bill on your existing subscription at the same interval (monthly or annual) as your plan. Adding seats charges a prorated amount immediately; removing seats credits the unused time to your next invoice. Removing a member frees their seat right away, and bringing in someone new to replace them never changes your bill.
Roles: Full access vs. Limited access
Every teammate is either:
- Full access: works across projects, clients, proposals, invoices, reports, call sheets, and crew, the same as you.
- Limited access: does the same production work, but never sees revenue, invoice or proposal amounts, reports, payouts, or crew W-9s.
You choose the access level when you send the invite, and can change it any time from the roster: click Make full or Make limited next to a member's name. A member's access level updates immediately; they'll see a notice reflecting the change the next time they load the app.
Tip: Limited access is a good fit for an editor, assistant, or second shooter who needs to build call sheets and manage projects but shouldn't see what a client was charged.
What only the owner can do
Regardless of access level, only the workspace owner can:
- Manage billing and change plans
- Set up or manage Stripe payments (Connect)
- Invite, remove, or change the access level of teammates
- Edit workspace-wide settings like studio branding
Removing a member
From the Seats list, click Remove next to an active member (or Cancel next to a pending invite). This frees the seat immediately. Removed members lose access to the workspace, but nothing they created is deleted, it stays in your workspace.
Plan availability
Team workspaces are a Studio feature. On Free and Pro you work solo. See Plans and limits for the full comparison, and Manage billing and your plan to upgrade.
Common questions
Can I see what a Limited teammate is doing?
Yes. Limited access only changes what that teammate sees, it doesn't restrict what you can see about their work. Everything they create is visible to you and to Full-access teammates.
Does removing a teammate change what they created?
No. Projects, call sheets, and other work they made stay in the workspace exactly as they left them.
What happens to seats if I downgrade from Studio?
Team workspaces are Studio-only, so downgrading removes team access. Your data is preserved either way, but teammates can no longer sign in to the workspace until you're back on Studio.
