Manage billing and your plan
Where to upgrade, update your payment method, view invoices, and what happens if you cancel.
Updated 2026-07-10
Billing lives in one place: the Subscription tab in Settings. It's owner-only, so if you're a teammate inside someone else's Studio workspace, you won't see these controls, only the workspace owner manages billing.
Where to find it
Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, choose Settings, then open the Subscription tab.
Upgrading your plan
The Subscription tab shows three plan cards: Free, Pro, and Studio, with your current plan marked Current. To move to a higher plan:
- Click the plan card you want.
- Choose Monthly or Annual billing (annual is discounted).
- Click Upgrade to Pro or Upgrade to Studio.
If this is your first paid plan, FirstSlate takes you to Stripe Checkout to complete the purchase. If you already have a paid subscription (say, moving from Pro to Studio, or switching between monthly and annual), FirstSlate changes your existing subscription in place instead: the new plan applies right away, and Stripe prorates the difference on your next invoice, charging for an upgrade and crediting unused time on a downgrade. You are never billed for two plans at once. Current prices are on the pricing page.
If you're on Studio, you can also add extra team seats from the Team tab. See Team workspaces for how seats work.
Payment method and invoices
Under Billing & payment, click Manage billing. This opens Stripe's billing portal in a new tab, where you can update your card on file and view or download past invoices.
Cancelling
In the Danger zone section, click Cancel next to Cancel subscription. This also opens the Stripe billing portal, where you confirm the cancellation. You keep full access to your current plan until the end of the billing period you already paid for. After that, your account drops to the Free plan and its limits apply, but nothing is deleted: every project, client, proposal, invoice, and call sheet you created stays exactly as it was. If you're over a Free-plan limit when the period ends (for example, more than 5 active projects), you can view and use everything you already have, you just can't create new projects or clients until you're back under the cap or you upgrade again.
Closing or deleting your account
Also in the Danger zone:
- Close account deactivates your login. If you're on a paid plan, your subscription is cancelled at the end of your current billing period first, so you're not charged again. Your data is preserved, and you can reopen your account any time by contacting support.
- Delete account is permanent. It removes your projects, clients, proposals, invoices, call sheets, and account data immediately, and cannot be undone. FirstSlate asks you to type a confirmation phrase before this runs.
The trial
Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card required. While it's active, a banner at the top of your dashboard shows the days remaining and a link to upgrade. When the trial ends, your account becomes Free automatically, you keep everything you made, and Free-plan limits apply from then on. See Plans and limits for what each plan includes.
Common questions
Can a teammate see or manage billing?
No. Billing, plan changes, and payment method are visible only to the workspace owner, even on Studio with Full-access teammates.
If I cancel, can I come back to the same plan later?
Yes. You can resubscribe from the Subscription tab at any time. Your projects, clients, and documents are all still there.
Is there a refund if I cancel partway through a billing period?
FirstSlate's cancellation keeps your paid access through the end of the period you already paid for rather than issuing a partial refund. See the Refund Policy for details.
What happens to my Stripe Connect payment setup if I cancel?
Your Connect account (used to accept client payments) is separate from your FirstSlate subscription. If you drop to Free, online payments are no longer available to turn on for new invoices, since that's a Pro and Studio feature, but your account setup itself isn't removed.
