Use the AI proposal assistant

The AI assistant reads a project's intake brief and drafts a starting proposal from it, overview text, priced line items, and deliverables, so you're editing a draft instead of starting from a blank page. It never sends anything on its own; every line it writes stays open for you to change or delete before the proposal goes out.

Where to find it

Open the proposal builder for a project (Dashboard → Projects → [a project] → Build Proposal). A blue Draft this proposal with AI panel sits at the top of the page with a Generate full proposal button. Individual sections also have their own Generate button: Project Overview, Scope & Pricing (drafts every line item), and Deliverables. Each existing line item has a Rewrite with AI icon for one-off edits.

Steering the draft

Click Add context on the master panel to type extra direction, for example "corporate client, keep it formal" or "budget is tight, suggest a lean scope." That note applies to every AI generate action in the builder, not only the next click. Once a draft exists, the Refine field below it accepts a follow-up instruction, like "add a second shoot day" or "make it fit a $10k budget," and reshapes the current draft instead of starting over.

If your intake brief has private notes attached (crew, gear, licensing, rates), the assistant prices each line using them. A prompt in the panel links you straight to the project's brief if you haven't added any yet.

AI pre-send check

Before you send, the builder can run a check that compares your draft against the intake brief and flags unbilled scope, deliverable mismatches, or budget contradictions. Look for AI pre-send check near the bottom of the page and click Run check.

Review before you send

Nothing the assistant generates is final until you review it. Line items land as editable rows, quantities and rates included, and the Client Price still follows whatever pricing mode (Auto or Manual) you have set. Treat every AI draft the way you'd treat a first pass from a junior producer: read it, correct it, then send it.

Privacy

The first time you use the assistant, FirstSlate shows a one-time notice explaining what happens: this project's intake brief is sent to Google's Gemini AI to draft the content, and Google does not use that content to train its models. You only see this notice once; after you acknowledge it, generating and rewriting run without interruption.

Plan availability

The AI assistant, including generate, refine, rewrite, and the pre-send check, is available on Pro and Studio. On Free, the same buttons are visible but locked, and clicking one sends you to upgrade. See plans and limits or pricing.

Common questions

Will the AI ever send a proposal for me?

No. Generating, refining, and rewriting only change the draft you're editing. Sending is always a separate, explicit action.

Does it know my rates?

It draws on whatever context it has: the intake brief, any private notes you've added to it, and the extra context you type into the panel. The more specific your notes, the closer the first draft lands.

What if I don't like what it generated?

Every generate action is undoable from the toast that appears right after, and you can always edit or delete individual line items afterward. Regenerating a section replaces only that section, not the rest of the proposal.
