Archive or delete a project

Archiving and deleting are different actions with different consequences. Archiving is the safe, reversible way to clear a finished job off your active list; deleting removes a project (and, in most cases, everything attached to it) for good.

Where to find it

Dashboard → Projects, click the ⋯ menu on any project row.

Archive a project

Open the row's ⋯ menu and click Archive. The project moves to the Archived tab and stops counting against your active project count. All of its history, documents, and links stay intact; it's only removed from your day-to-day view.

Tip: On the Free plan, archiving a finished project frees up an active slot, so you can keep taking new work without upgrading. See plans and limits.

Restore an archived project

From the Archived tab, open the same ⋯ menu and click Unarchive to bring it back to your active list. The project comes back at the stage it was in when you archived it, so an approved brief's share link keeps working.

Plan limits on archiving

Free plan accounts can keep up to 5 active projects and 20 archived projects at once. If your archive is full, delete a project you no longer need or upgrade for unlimited active and archived projects. Pro and Studio have no limit on either.

Delete a project

Open the row's ⋯ menu and click Delete. FirstSlate asks you to confirm. This also removes the proposal, invoice, and call sheets attached to the project, and cannot be undone.

FirstSlate blocks the delete if the project has business records that need to stay on file: an accepted proposal, or an invoice that isn't a Draft or Voided (meaning it's been sent, is partially paid, or is fully paid). In that case you'll see a message explaining what's attached and pointing you to archive the project instead, or void the invoice first if you genuinely need to remove it.

Common questions

Why can't I delete a project with a signed proposal or a sent invoice?

Those are treated as real business records: an accepted proposal is a signed agreement, and a sent or paid invoice may reference an actual payment. Deleting them outright would erase history you (or your accountant) might need later. Archive the project to get it out of your active list instead.

Does archiving delete anything?

No. Archiving only changes the project's status so it's excluded from your active count and your default views. Every document, link, and piece of history stays exactly as it was.

I'm at my 20-project archive limit on Free. What are my options?

Permanently delete an archived project you truly don't need (subject to the same accepted-proposal / active-invoice protection above), or upgrade to Pro or Studio for unlimited archived projects.
